UoM China Centre Successfully Hosted AMBS 60th Anniversary Alumni Dinner

On 10 November 2025, nearly 150 alumni gathered at the Radisson Blu Yangtze Hotel to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). The gala dinner followed the successful conclusion of the Third Artificial Intelligence Forum hosted by the University of Manchester China Centre.Professor Kenneth McPhail, Head of AMBS; Mr. Josh Gabriel, Senior Programme Manager of the British Council; and Ms. Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester China Centre attended the dinner. Together, they delivered inspiring remarks and celebrated the strong bond within the Manchester alumni community.



The dinner commenced with a warm and inspiring welcome speech by Ms. Sherry Fu. She extended her heartfelt gratitude to all the guests for their presence and reflected on the recently concluded 3rd Artificial Intelligence Forum, expressing sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to its success.Sherry highlighted that this year marks the 17th anniversary of the University of Manchester China Centre. Over the past 17 years, the Centre has worked closely with the Business School and successfully nurtured over 2,000 outstanding MBA graduates. Looking ahead, she emphasized that the China Centre will continue to advance the School’s world-class educational programmes and empower the growth of future business leaders.

Prof. Ken McPhail reflected on AMBS's founding vision of social responsibility and its remarkable global growth—achieving triple accreditation and establishing four international centers.He emphasized that the true measure of success lies in the 70,000 alumni worldwide who embody the spirit of Manchester.Looking ahead, he encouraged alumni to lead with purpose and social responsibility in an era shaped by AI, technology, and sustainability challenges.He concluded by thanking the alumni community and inviting them to stay connected and continue supporting the School’s journey toward global excellence.

Mr. Josh Gabriel congratulated everyone on the successful event representing the British Council. He highlighted the importance of educational and cultural exchanges in driving international cooperation and hailed the event as a fine example of such collaboration. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope for further deepened cooperation with the University of Manchester.

Inspired by the founding year of AMBS, the dinner adopted the theme “Back to the Sixties”, creating a nostalgic yet vibrant atmosphere. Guests enjoyed classic retro music, exquisite cuisine, and interactive activities such as a singing contest and quiz session — filling the evening with laughter and connection.

During the alumni singing competition, each performer showcased their unique charm and passion, delivering a captivating musical feast for the audience. Ms. Shelley Lai and Dr. Deqing Xu opened with a heartfelt duet expressing deep love for homeland. Ms. Jin Xingci impressed with her graceful performance that evoked fond memories, while Mr. Kezhao Yang and Ms. Yin Wang each brought their own distinctive styles—one free-spirited and powerful, the other tender and soulful. Mr. Bo Cao then energized the room with his dynamic and passionate performance. The evening concluded on a touching note as Ms. Sherry Fu joined the singers on stage for a warm and inspiring finale.



The gala dinner not only celebrated six decades of AMBS excellence, but also looked forward to an even brighter future. Strengthened by shared memories and renewed ties, alumni left with a deeper sense of belonging and pride. With the next 60 years ahead, AMBS will continue to shape the global business landscape and inspire generations of influential leaders.
